Quick Answer

This reflection for Jesus Calling November 23 teaches that waiting on God is active trust, and that He renews strength in seasons that feel stuck.

Scripture for Today

  • Isaiah 40:31 (KJV):

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Reflection: Waiting Without Wasting the Wait

Waiting rooms are uncomfortable. We watch the clock, check our phones, and wonder whether anyone remembers us. Many of us treat spiritual waiting the same way, as dead time before the real action begins.

Isaiah describes it differently. Those who wait on the Lord are renewed. Think of a sailor waiting for wind. He isn’t idle; he repairs the sails, studies the sky, and stays ready. Waiting on God can mean praying, serving, learning, and staying faithful in small things while the answer is still on its way.

Try This Today

  • Offer the Wait: Name what you’re waiting for, and offer it to God in one sentence.
  • Stay Faithful Today: Do one faithful thing today that doesn’t depend on the answer.
  • Encourage Another: Encourage someone else who is waiting.

Prayer for Today

Lord,
Waiting is hard. Teach me to trust Your timing, and renew my strength as I wait on You.
Amen.

Question to Carry This Week

What can I do faithfully today while I wait?
