Quick Answer
This reflection for Jesus Calling November 27 shows that real contentment comes from knowing God will never leave you, not from owning more.
Scripture for Today
- Hebrews 13:5 (KJV):
“Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.”
Reflection: Contentment in a Season of Sales
Banners, emails, and ads all whisper the same thing: you need more. Even a small purchase can feel like a promise of happiness.
The verse gives the reason for contentment, and it isn’t “have less.” It is “He will never leave you.” A child holding a parent’s hand doesn’t need the toys in every shop window. Wise spending is good, and generosity is better. But our deepest security comes from a Person, not a purchase.
Try This Today
- Pause Before Buying: Pause before buying anything and ask, “Do I need this?”
- Practice Generosity: Give something away or support someone in need.
- Give Thanks for What You Have: Thank God for three things you already have.
Prayer for Today
Lord,
You are enough for me. Free me from restless wanting and teach me to be generous and content.
Amen.
Question to Carry This Week
What am I hoping a purchase will give me that only God can?

No. Be wise, honest, and watch your motives.
