Quick Answer
This reflection for Jesus Calling November 18 shows that weakness is not a barrier to God’s help. It is often the place where His grace is most clearly seen.
Scripture for Today
- 2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV):
“And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”
Reflection: When You Are Running on Empty
A phone at one percent still shows a bright screen for a moment, and then goes dark. Many of us live like that: still functioning, but nearly empty. We assume God is waiting for us to recharge ourselves before we come to Him.
Paul heard something surprising. God’s strength does not wait for ours to arrive. It meets us at the very point where ours runs out. Admitting “I can’t do this alone” is not failure. It is the doorway through which grace comes in.
Try This Today
- Be Honest with God: Tell God plainly how tired you are. He already knows.
- Lighten the Load: Remove or delay one non-essential task from today.
- Reach Out: Ask one trusted person to pray for you or help with something small.
Prayer for Today
Lord,
I am tired. I bring You my limits instead of pretending they aren’t there. Be my strength today, and teach me to rest in Your grace.
Amen.
Question to Carry This Week
What limit am I hiding that I could bring to God honestly?
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this verse mean I should never rest or seek help?
No. Rest, sleep, medical care, and counsel are good gifts. Grace works through them too.
What did Paul mean by “infirmities”?
The word points to weaknesses and hardships. Paul learned that these became places where Christ’s power was displayed.
