Quick Answer

This reflection for Jesus Calling November 17 explains that Christ’s peace is a gift that stays with you in busy days, not a reward for having a calm schedule.

Scripture for Today

  • John 14:27 (KJV):

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

Reflection: Peace That Doesn’t Depend on a Quiet Day

We often say, “I’ll feel peaceful once things settle down.” But a calm calendar rarely arrives. Jesus spoke these words on the night before His arrest, which was anything but peaceful. The peace He offered was never tied to easy circumstances.

Picture a lighthouse in a storm. The waves do not stop, yet the light stays fixed and keeps guiding ships. Christ’s peace works like that light. It doesn’t silence the storm around you; it gives your heart something steady to look at while the storm passes.

Try This Today

  • Pause and Receive: When tension rises, pause and pray, “Jesus, I receive Your peace.”
  • Three Slow Breaths: Take three slow breaths before replying to a stressful message.
  • Surrender Before Sleep: Write down one thing you can leave in God’s hands tonight.

Prayer for Today

Lord Jesus,
I don’t want a peace that disappears when my day gets loud. Settle my heart with Yours, and help me carry Your calm into the rooms I walk into today.
Amen.

Question to Carry This Week

Where am I waiting for circumstances to change before I allow myself to be at peace?

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it wrong to feel anxious even though I believe in Jesus?

No. Feelings come and go. Jesus’ words invite you to bring them to Him, not to hide them.

How is Christ’s peace different from relaxation?

Relaxation depends on the situation. Christ’s peace rests on His presence and promises.
